Peepoo bags put to use in Haiti

The Haiti earthquake left thousands of people without sanitation, and in environments with crowded, compacted and concreted areas with difficulties of digging and placing latrines.

People need toilets immediately, and very few sanitation options are available on such a short notice, in particular sustainable options. Oxfam GB is therefore trialling various solutions like “peepoo,” and similar bags, as well as other innovative methods. The peepoo bags are biodegradable and after use are taken away for composting.
